Ways to Give

Your generosity keeps our community thriving

Supporting the work we do together to inspire, love, and serve as we commit to creating a better world. Here are a few simple ways to make a gift or fulfill your pledge.

Give Online by Credit Card or ACH

Give by Cash or Check

You’re always welcome to place cash or a check in the offering plate during worship. If you give cash during a service, place it in an offering envelope with your name and the purpose of your gift (unidentified cash goes to our general fund). Place the envelope in the basket during the Offering. If you’d rather mail your donations:

• Make checks payable to The Unitarian Church in Charleston.
• Write “Pledge” on the memo line.
• Mail to: The Unitarian Church in Charleston 4 Archdale Street Charleston, SC 29401. Please don’t mail cash.

Give Through Your Bank

Most banks let you send payments directly through online banking. You can set up a one-time or recurring payment to the Church — it’s easy, secure, and there are no fees for you or us.

Give with Stock

If you have appreciated stock, donating it directly to the Church can be a smart way to give. You may be able to claim the full value of your gift without paying capital gains tax.

Interested?
1. Check with your financial or tax advisor to see what works best for you.
2. Contact finance@charlestonuu.org for the simple steps to transfer your stock and let them know you’d like your gift applied to your pledge or another purpose.

Give from Your IRA

If you’re 70 1/2 or older and take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from your IRA, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly to the Church. This kind of gift goes tax-free and counts toward your RMD, even if you take the standard deduction. The key is to have your IRA manager send the funds directly to the Church.
If this sounds right for you, please talk to your advisor first, then email finance@charlestonuu.org to let them know your gift is on the way.

Pledging

Pledging is a promise—to this congregation and to your future self. It’s a commitment that even when life gets busy or you forget how much this community means to you, you will still help keep the light on. In that way, pledging becomes a spiritual practice. It’s not simply a transaction, but an expression of faith and trust: trust that this community matters, that you belong here, and that together we sustain something larger than any one of us alone. Every pledge, at every level, becomes part of the shared beam of light. No single gift powers the lighthouse by itself—but together, our gifts strengthen and steady the beacon of hope we shine into the world.
