Governance Documents

The Unitarian Church in Charleston is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), an association of liberal congregations, but not a governing body. The Unitarian Church in Charleston governs itself through the Vestry Board. The Vestry Board, made up of nine members selected by the congregation, serves in trust for the congregation for staggered three-year terms.

Staying in close touch with the congregation, the Board articulates the church’s vision through its governing policies and monitors the work of the Minister in accordance with those policies. Members of the church are welcome to attend meetings at any time, except during Executive Session.

We hold an annual meeting in May to vote on the budget for the upcoming church year, elect new members to the Vestry Board, and discuss other matters that require a vote of our members.
