"Where Everybody Knows Your Name"with guest preacher, Clint Tawes
Inspired by the beloved sitcom Cheers, this sermon explores our deep human longing for sanctuary, connection, and belonging. Clint Tawes reflects on the courage it takes to walk into a new space—be it a bar or a church—and what it means to truly welcome others, not just with our words but with our presence. With warmth and insight, this message invites us to create a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and known by name.
Janet Watts will be our Worship Associate.
Music provided by Ryan Pagels, Maria Dilling, Helena Dilling, and Matt Foster.
Children will stay with their grown ups in Gage Hall.
During the summer months, the nursery in the Annex is open to children ages 7 and under from 10:00 AM-12:15 PM.

We are thrilled to welcome Emily as our new Lifespan Religious Education Coordinator. This week is her first week and this Sunday will be her first Sunday. She will be working with us half-time. Please join us in helping her feel welcome!
Emily says, "Hi, it’s an honor be here and to get to know you and your families. I’m Emily, I grew up and went to college in Massachusetts. I’ve lived here in Charleston for 12 years. Spirituality and the path of the soul are my guiding forces. I have always been drawn to children and nurturing their growth. I’m a yoga & meditation teacher, a beach person, and a Mom as well. I look forward to meeting you, please feel free to say hello."
Refugee Update
Here is a note from Nancy Hild:
"Our refugee is now in Guatemala with her family after 37 days in detention. The children remain in their home here while their schooling situation is settled. They are able to talk to their mother daily."
From Rev. Rebecca:
"I want to thank all of you who have contributed to our refugee fund this summer. With your support, our family has been able to navigate this horrific experience better than some.
Ever since our refugee made the difficult decision to risk returning home to Guatemala rather than risk the unknown and the possibility of many, many months in the detention center, the money has primarily been used to support the children (groceries, medical bills, school supplies, and more).
We were also able to fund our refugee's commissary account while she was in detention. This allowed her to make phone calls and contact her children during the worst months of this experience. Finally, we were able to send our refugee home to Guatemala with a little bit of money that she will be able to use as she gets resettled."
MUSICIANS WANTED!!
This Fall we will be forming a UC-CHS "House Band," that will play one Sunday a month.
This volunteer group will cover a wide variety of styles and genres, depending on the themes of the service and it is possible we will rotate musicians based on what they are comfortable playing.
We are primarily looking for drums, guitar, electric bass, keyboard, and singers; however we are open to other instruments!
Time commitment is minimal, 1-2 rehearsals per service, hoping to start in late September/early October.
