Weddings at the Unitarian Church in Charleston

Thank you for considering the Unitarian Church in Charleston for your wedding ceremony! We’re honored that you’re thinking of celebrating such a special day in our historic sanctuary. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions couples ask as they plan their big day.

General Information


We host weddings September through June  depending on church activities and availability. Please contact susan.findlay@charlestonuu.org as early as possible to secure your date.

You do not have to be a member — all are welcome. Our church celebrates love in all its forms.

Fees and Reservations


Please contact our wedding coordinator at susan.findlay@charlestonuu.org for information about fees.

Yes, a deposit is needed to secure your date. The remaining balance will be due 30 days before the ceremony.

Ceremony Details


The Unitarian Church in Charleston requires the use of our minister for your ceremony.

We do not require counseling, but couples will need to meet  or talk with our minister beforehand to discuss ceremony details.

Music


Our Director of Music is given the right of first refusal to offer paid music for weddings occurring in the building. He will work with other hired musicians if needed. We do not use recorded music.

Logistics and Guests


The sanctuary comfortably seats around 200-225  guests.

Yes. Although the church has no designated parking, there are two garages within walking distance in downtown Charleston. There is also some street parking.

Yes, the Unitarian Church in Charleston is accessible with access ramps to both buildings.

Rehearsals and Coordination


Yes, a one-hour rehearsal, usually the evening before, is typically included in the wedding package.

Yes, the wedding coordinator will run the rehearsal and coordinate on the day of the wedding.
